So…while I’ve been staring at a blank page for around half an hour, waiting for inspiration to strike, I’ve had about a million random thoughts going through my head: the annoying moment my hands gets so sweaty that my iPhone screen stops reacting to my swipes (I even did a quick Google search to see how other people with hyperhidrosis were coping, and there’s actually a site called SweatHelp.org…it’s all about sweat!); the weather – I compared the weather of three German cities just to see where I should ideally be living…south of Germany all the way.
And then I took a little trip down memory lane and remembered how 10 to 15 years ago everyone, and by everyone I mean my classmates and their parents, would always tell me how overdressed or overstyled I was. Back in the day I really liked making an effort. On a daily basis. To look prim and proper even in school. And I loved overdressing and overstyling others.
It was so much fun putting way too much makeup on my friends’ faces or dying my hair at my bestie’s house, letting the dye develop while I was having dinner with her family. Yup, I was a little weird. Always out there and over the top. When I was about 15 years old I actually had this horrible phase, where I would go to the tanning salon all the time and look like a burnt orange…it wasn’t my proudest (or smartest) moment, but like all phases, it passed, and made me the person I am today.
Nowadays, I prefer the simple things in life. Simple makeup, simple outfits, no hair dye, not even fake eye lashes. What you see is what you get. Making the effort has become much less effortless than it used to be, and I’d rather let the whole world see my naked face than spending 20 minutes on putting on makeup for a 30 min walk in the park.
So whoever says people can’t change is clearly wrong. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve undergone subtle changes, although not on purpose…it’s a very dynamic, fluid process that happens to all of us without us even noticing. Unless we take a trip down memory lane and start to remember…
