Seasonal Bliss

Seasonal Bliss Since I started my blog in February I have noticed a huge shift in my perception of the four seasons. Before What Defines Us was born only two seasons existed in my mind: winter and summer. I hardly ever acknowledged spring and autumn as seasons in their own right – they were mere transitions between winter and summer, the time when it starts to get warmer, and the time when it starts to get colder.

Seasonal Bliss Seasonal Bliss I never understood why somebody would choose autumn as their favourite season. The summer is over, the days are getting shorter, colder and wetter, and trees are losing their precious leaves. Winter may be even colder and wetter, but at least it is full of Christmas magic, snow and new beginnings…

Seasonal Bliss Now that my first autumn as a fashion blogger is in full swing I have finally opened my eyes to the beauty of it. Yes, things have gone rainier and colder, but everything is looking beautifully colourful and fashion has become the most joyful game of textures, hues, silhouettes and layers.

Seasonal Bliss Only in autumn is it possible to wear a warm jumper with a pair of heeled sandals and a skirt without getting too cold or too warm. It is the perfect time to finally whip out your (faux) leather, scarves and light coats, wear over the knee boots, and give your T-shirts and cropped pants their last outings of the year.

Seasonal Bliss If you ask me, and I’m sure you agree, there is no time of the year that is more exciting fashion-wise than autumn – the opportunities are endless, and looks much more interesting. It would be premature of me to say it was my favourite season of 2014, but if I don’t happen to experience a real Christmas miracle this year, I think we have a winner…

I’m new to seasons too! We only really get two seasons in South Africa – summer for nine months and then three months of winter. I’m learning to appreciate spring and autumn too now and autumn is becoming one of my faves.

Thanks for sharing Mandy! Having nine months of summer sounds pretty lovely actually 😉 xx

I have to repeat what Marlen’s mentioned in her comment: I can’t believe you’ve only started blogging last February!! Your style of dressing and blogging feel very seasoned, in a refreshing way. I love Autumn for its transitional character as a season and agree with you when you say that it is a time for the diverse use of everything you have in the wardrobe. What a thoughtful post! Thank you :) <3 xx

Haha…there are actually so many fantastic blogs out there that are even younger than mine!

Thank you dear! Your comment means a lot. I always try to keep things topical on my blog :) xx

    1. I cant believe youve only been blogging since February, your blog is *amazing*!

    2. This outfit is everything. I love love love this whole jumper, skirt, and heels combo

    3. I definitely share your sentiments about fall. When people say they’re excited for the cooler weather i want to smack them haha, snow storms and arctic winds are brutal!! But it *is* super fun to dress for- there’s just so much to play with!

      2. Thanks again, so glad you like the look!

      3. I couldn’t agree more. I really hope there won’t be any snow storms, though…London as a city literally breaks down under 1 inch of snow 😀 xx

First of all I totally agree with you, before my blog in February as well I didn’t think of dressing for autumn and spring! How strange now that you’ve made me realise it ahah! And I love your outfit, that skirt is divine and looks amazing with that chic version of the preppy ‘sweater over shirt’. Happy Halloween by the way 😉 X

Yeah I know…fashion has finally opened our eyes 😀 Thank you! Glad you like the look. I’m rather fond of it myself. I might have to try to carry it into winter with a cool pair of tights or something 😉 xx

I really like what you have written about seeing Autumn in another way…sometimes fashion can enrich our perception, right?

I really like your lipstick..dark purple is it? and sunnies….

the outfit is so perfect….wonderful full skirt and sandals…such a feminine look that still feels cozy and seasonal:) love it!

    • http://whatdefinesus.com/ Jasmin

Absolutely…blogging about fashion has enriched my life in more than just one way :)

The Lipstick is a sort of purple, but it looks darker in pics than it really is. It’s the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Never Say Never, in case you’re interested :)

Thank you..so sweet of you :) xx
