Since I started my blog in February I have noticed a huge shift in my perception of the four seasons. Before What Defines Us was born only two seasons existed in my mind: winter and summer. I hardly ever acknowledged spring and autumn as seasons in their own right – they were mere transitions between winter and summer, the time when it starts to get warmer, and the time when it starts to get colder.
I never understood why somebody would choose autumn as their favourite season. The summer is over, the days are getting shorter, colder and wetter, and trees are losing their precious leaves. Winter may be even colder and wetter, but at least it is full of Christmas magic, snow and new beginnings…
Now that my first autumn as a fashion blogger is in full swing I have finally opened my eyes to the beauty of it. Yes, things have gone rainier and colder, but everything is looking beautifully colourful and fashion has become the most joyful game of textures, hues, silhouettes and layers.
Only in autumn is it possible to wear a warm jumper with a pair of heeled sandals and a skirt without getting too cold or too warm. It is the perfect time to finally whip out your (faux) leather, scarves and light coats, wear over the knee boots, and give your T-shirts and cropped pants their last outings of the year.
If you ask me, and I’m sure you agree, there is no time of the year that is more exciting fashion-wise than autumn – the opportunities are endless, and looks much more interesting. It would be premature of me to say it was my favourite season of 2014, but if I don’t happen to experience a real Christmas miracle this year, I think we have a winner…
