Attention trend hunters, sunseekers and cool kids, summer is officially on its way (this time for real). So do your pasty pins a favour and give them some well-deserved Vitamin D in a sassy pair of – drumroll please – CULOTTES…what else?
Haha…I promised you the return of the culottes, didn’t I? The culottes game is stronger than ever, and you’d have to be a masochistic fool to pass up on THE trend of SS15.
Although I obviously could have chosen a more exciting pair for my very first culottes summer look, I decided to keep it simple, convenient and comfy. I was dressing for a casual picnic in the park after all, so no need for daring experiments. Honestly girls (and guys), there’s no better feeling than the summer sun caressing your skin and a fresh breeze blowing up your trousers to keep “things” cool (but covered).
Jokes aside, I know that loads of people have been reluctant to even try them on last year – personally, I blame the lack of variety in the shops – but this year, there’s definitely no way around them. The best thing about culottes is their incredible versatility. While I opted for a sporty look, I could easily have turned myself into a serious businesswoman by pairing them with pumps and a smart blouse.
If you’re still thinking that you can’t pull them off, for whatever reason, then think again ladies. If you follow these two easy styling rules, you sure as hell will look sexy as f*ck in culottes:
1. The wider the culottes, the more figure-hugging and tapered the top should be. But not only tall and slim women can pull off wide culottes with oversized tops. If you don’t feel the need to play it save, I dare you to go oversized everything and enjoy the comfort.
2. The longer the culottes and the shorter and heavier your legs, the more important it becomes to wear heels. If you’re as short as me, but prefer to wear sneakers with your culottes, opt for a pair that ends just below the knee. But then again…breaking the rules can be so much fun too…
