It is the little things in life one must learn to appreciate, because everyday life is not about the big wonders; it’s all about the small wonders that make the journey of life so much more enjoyable. Just like a delicious breakfast with your best friend at a wonderful place full of light and plants. Just around the corner of the hustle and bustle of Friedrichstraße the guests of House of Small Wonder can enjoy a fabulous “All Day Brunch” in a warm, homey atmosphere – an oasis in the middle of Berlin.
True to the motto “urban greenhouse meets American dishes with a Japanese twist” House of Small Wonder serves not only classics like Homemade Granola with fresh Fruit Salad and Greek Yogurt and Almond Croissants, but also savoury dishes like Okinawan Taco Rice, Onigri with Miso Soup and Sake Teishoku. This formula of success was first tried and tested in New York before it was shipped all the way to Berlin to delight us Germans with comfort food made of local organic ingredients and Japanese spices.
While Marlene opted for the subtly sweet Granola and Sencha tea, I decided to indulge in Croissant French Toast – two croissants as French toast with fruit salad, maple syrup and whipped cream, and a Matcha Latte. The freshness of the fruit perfectly offset the richness of the sweet croissants – possibly the best breakfast I’ve ever had.
Considering the excellent service of the smiley Japanese staff, the serene atmosphere and the excellent food (our neighbours shared a sandwich with scrambled eggs – it looked divine) House of Small Wonder is one of the best brunch places I’ve ever visited, and I’m super eager to try even more (read all) of the deliciously sounding dishes.
