A Guide To Red Lipstick

A Guide To Red Lips

Red is the colour of passion and love. It’s sophisticated, alluring, seductive and sexy. A woman with red lips knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it. But finding the perfect shade to suit your skin tone can be a bit of a challenge, as not every red flatters every complexion. Some shades of red will naturally look better on your skin tone than others, and to shed some light on the do’s and don’ts, I decided to compose a short guide on what shade of red goes with what skin tone. I hope you find it helpful.

Fair with pink undertones:

Cherry reds with blue undertones complement peachy complexions as they bring out the pink undertones of the skin, and make lips pop. Also the perfect shade to make your teeth appear whiter. My pick: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in 69

Fair with olive undertones (me):

Steer clear of cool pinks and embrace a warm brick or apple red pout to warm up your skin tone. Alternatively, choose a deep wine red with a hint of violet that prevents your skin from looking washed out (also works with fair skin with pink undertones). My pick: Rouge Dior Lipstick in 999

Beige with blonde hair and dark eyes:

Girls with slightly sun-kissed skin and dark blonde hair should go for a deep, dark red with gold undertones – a shade that works rather well with all skin tones. My pick: Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in Enticing

Beige with red/brown hair and blue eyes:

Go for a bright orange lipstick – a colour that can be difficult to pull off with a different complexion, but is perfect for spring. My pick: MAC Amplified Lipstick in Morange

Golden with green or brown eyes:

A neutral red or brown is the perfect complement for golden girls. My Pick Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita

Golden with blue eyes:

Make you complexion glow with a bright matte corally red. My pick: Rimmel Lasting Finish By Kate Lipstick in 110

Bronze:

Lucky girls blessed with bronze skin can wear virtually any shade of red. The warm undertones of your skin and your peachy cheeks look particularly beautiful when accentuated by a bright coral shade, however. My pick: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Striking

Olive:

A pinky red accentuates the undertones of olive skin particularly nicely. My pick: Dior Diorific High Fashion Lipstick in 013 Ange Bleu

Brown:

The gold undertones of brown skin are highlighted by matte orangey reds with warm undertones. My Pick: Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square

Dark:

Girls with deep dark skin should go for cool reds with blue undertones for a young and modern look or deep dark reds for more sophistication. My pick: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in 040 Red Velvet
