Who else is majorly annoyed by the no-bookings policy of some of London’s hippest culinary temples? Not cool restaurant managers…not cool. I’m not British, queuing is not part of my chemistry. In fact, I hate queuing with a passion, and outright refuse to queue for food. Now it all wouldn’t be such a big problem if my friends shared my love for 6pm dinners…no queues at 6pm. But they don’t, and so the hunt for seats continues…
David and I were initially planning on checking out the food at Bocca di lupo, but when we arrived the waiter politely explained to us that we wouldn’t be able to be seated before 10pm…no thank you. So we turned around and took a stroll through Soho until Blanchette caught our eyes. French tapas? Why not. We ordered almost all pescetarian dishes on the menu (even though David is an ardent meat eater, he gave the meaty dishes a pass, because he wanted to be able to share all dishes with me..sweet non?) and enjoyed the amazing music, the casual young vibe and the fabulous French tapas.
As the night was still young when we finished pudding, we decided to venture over to China Town for a drink at Experimental Cocktail Club. The atmosphere is extremely cosy (as in almost sitting on your neighbours lap), the drinks are truly experimental (like nothing you’ve ever seen before) and the staff is rather pretty. A perfect end to a lovely night.
