Hungry in Berlin Kreuzberg, but super tired of greasy fast food? Fret not, I got just the perfect lunch spot for you. Tucked away on busy Oranienstraße, between Moritz Platz and Görlitzer Bahnhof – a great area for the ardent foodie btw – anaveda lives up to its suggestive name.
The seasonal menu consists of organic ingredients from local farmers, which are carefully combined to create healthy, ayurvedic dishes with a special emphasis on balanced seasoning. I’m not going to lecture you about the benefits of an ayurvedic diet, but what I will tell you is that anaveda’s daily changing lunch menu is tasty, comforting, and most importantly, really good for you.
At this point it shouldn’t come as a surprise that most dishes anaveda offers are vegetarian, some even vegan. But they also cater for the gluten- and lactose-intolerant folks amongst us. Each dish is conveniently labelled accordingly at the counter, so no need for questions. Additional to ordering one of the warm dishes, you also have the opportunity to assemble your own fresh salad, munch on a piece of cake, sip a mango lassi or buy one of the ayurvedic spreads they sell in little glasses.
During my four weeks working in Kreuzberg, my colleagues and I have already enjoyed many lunches at anaveda. Some inside at their community table, some outside at one of the little tables on the curb, and some in the office at our desks (yes, they conveniently do takeaway too) – but all had one thing in common: they were unfailingly excellent!
